Amplifying the Voices of Marginalized Physics Students through Focus Groups

Abstract
In response to concerns from student leaders, we are conducting focus groups to understand the experiences of undergraduate physics and astrophysics students. We are recruiting students from underrepresented backgrounds and various levels of registered student organization (RSO) involvement to amplify marginalized students’ voices. Findings from these focus groups will spark conversations with the Physics Faculty/Staff Diversity Committee and relevant student organizations. Together, we will produce a formal report regarding how we can enhance the sense of belonging for all undergrad students in Illinois Physics.
